Roof Projects
The first round of roof replacement work scheduled for Bellevue West has been wrapped up over several classroom areas, the shop area and the pool area. These roofs should be highly functional for the next 20+ years so these roofs will keep the students and staff dry!!! Additional roof areas have been identified/scheduled for replacement and will be scheduled to be completed in the next couple of years after higher priority roofs are addressed in the District.
Shop Ventilation Upgrade Project
The replacement of the ventilation units for the welding hoods in the shop area at Bellevue West was completed over the Spring break period at the end of March, 2018. The new units replace the previous units that were part of the original building construction completed back in 1977.
Bellevue West Field Lighting
As part of the overall bond program, the existing field lighting is being planned on being replaced at Bellevue West to bring field lighting levels up to current lighting standards. Options were reviewed between going back with new HID lighting or moving to more energy efficient LED field lighting. In review of existing conditions at the site, the recommendation was made to look at installing new poles and LED field lighting at the field. Design of the new system was coordinated with Musco Lighting and a contract was awarded to Musco to provide the new lighting system and poles for the project. A separate installation package has been awarded to ProTech Electrical Systems.
Positives resulting from this project include the following:
- Lamp Life: The existing HID lamps being used at the field are rated around 15,000 hours of average lamp life. The new average LED lamp life expectancy is rated over 50,000 hours.
- Energy Savings: Based on anticipated yearly use, it is anticipated that the new LED fixtures will save approximately $1,000 per year in utility costs.
- Musco provides a full 25-year maintenance package for the new LED fixtures with the installation on the new poles. If anything happens to these fixtures during this time, Musco handles all of the repair/replacement work at their expense. This equates to an average $2,000 to $4,000 annual savings to the District in light fixture maintenance costs. Work on this project is scheduled to start in August 2018 and is anticipated to be completed in late September, 2018. The existing lights at the field will be kept active until the new lights are ready to be activated.
