LATEST UPDATES

January 2, 2018 – Bertha Barber

Bids will be received in January for the planned roof replacement work for Bertha Barber Elementary School. A study was completed for the Bellevue School District by an outside roof consultant and the roof at Bertha Barber was identified as a higher priority for consideration of replacement. It is anticipated that work on the roof replacement will begin in late May to coincide with the end of the 2017-2018 school year. It is anticipated that the roofing work will be completed by the start of school in August 2018.

January 2, 2018 – Leonard Lawrence

Work is on the replacement of the existing roof systems at Leonard Lawrence Elementary is essentially complete except for a few minor areas of finish trim work. The flat roof and sloped shingled areas have been wrapped up and the installation of the clerestory wall panels was recently completed. Recent weather conditions has slowed the completion timetable but should be completed in short order once weather conditions permit the final installation of the trim work.

January 2, 2018 – Bellevue East

HVAC
Advanced Engineering Systems (AES) is continuing with preparation of plans for the planned HVAC renovations and upgrades at Bellevue East High School. It is anticipated that AES will present updated plans to the School/District staff in early January as they proceed with a timetable to have bidding documents available for bidding in March of 2018. The current plan is to replace the existing steam boiler heating and chiller cooling systems currently found within the building with a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system. The decision to proceed with this installation was made after reviewing a number of heating and cooling options where initial costs and long term operating/life cycle costs were weighed between the options. While the initial costs on the installation of this system is substantial, the system provides the most efficiency in terms of energy efficiency and operating/maintenance costs which should provide a substantial savings to the District over the life of the HVAC system and the remaining life of the building. The VRF installation will also provide better individual room temperature control and hopefully a better learning environment within the classrooms. It is anticipated that construction will start in late Spring of 2018 and construction could last for upwards over a two-year time window depending on how the work can be phased during school years. Additional information will be forthcoming as soon as plans are better developed.

ROOF PROJECT
The Bellevue School Board has awarded a Contract to 10 Men Roofing, Inc. to complete the replacement of the existing roof system over the North Gym area at Bellevue East. It is anticipated that work on the project will begin in late February or early March once weather conditions permit the start of the work involved with the project.

January 2, 2018 – Bellevue West

Roof Projects: The roofing work for the first round of roof replacement work scheduled for Bellevue West is progressing. Roofing work has been completed in Area 1 (Northwest quadrant), Area 2 (Language Classrooms) and the Shop/Technology wing. Roofing work has started on the area over the existing Pool area but has been temporarily halted due to extreme cold weather. Once there is a break in the weather, roofing work will resume and should be completed within approximately two weeks (weather dependent). Work was delayed somewhat during the late fall due to persistent high wind conditions.

Shop Ventilation Upgrade Project: Work will begin in late March, 2018 for the replacement of two mechanical units located over the welding shop at Bellevue West. The existing rooftop units are existing units dating back to when the school first opened in 1977. The existing units have deteriorated to a point where water is continually entering the building through the units. It is anticipated that the mechanical work in and over the shop area will be completed over the Spring Break period and back in operation in early April.
